Writing a report

Sometimes we need to write a report and the only thing we do is to write ideas with no sense.
Reports are used by another person or group of people, they're often used to help them make decisions. The information always has to be clearly presented and easy to access, most of the times it includes suggestions, recommendations and conclusions.
 Some examples are:

Dealing with stressful situations

Now I'll give you some vocabulary you can use at stressful situations. Hope this is useful.


Takes me seriously: This is to be taken serious, it's not hard this one.
Give him a head start: Like having an advantage.
Defend my position: This one is also simple.Defend what you think or believe.
Stick to your guns: Use what you can to protect your point of view.
Present your case: Give your opinion.
Taking control of the situation: Handle the way you want.
Leave him in no doubt you'll carry out the world: Show someone you're able to do something.
Use that to your advantage: Use something against someone.

Body language

First of all I'll mention the vocabulary I'll show:

  1. Tapping fingers
  2. Stroke chin
  3. Fold arms
  4. Staring 
  5. Clench his teeth
  6. Nod
  7. Frown
Tapping fingers is when you're playing with your hands.
Stroke chin is when you make a face using your hand like pointing to your left or right, near your chin. This means you're thinking.
Fold arms is when you....Yes!!! fold your arms, this means you're not receiving information from someone. 
Staring. This means you're interested on something or someone. Or maybe you're a stalker.
Clench teeth. This happens when you're angry. It's like GRRRR.
Nod. Is just saying yes with your head.
Frown. Is when you want something and you don't get it. For example you are a child that wants a toy and he has been asking for it for Christmas, then he opens his present and, guess what? He didn't get the toy he wanted, the face he does that's frown.

Writing compositions

You may want some tips about writing compositions.
First of all you have to know who are you writing. A particular audience or something like that, this must influence the style you use.

Also you have to know if it's a formal or informal style, this depends on the first point I mentioned.
Your composition has to have a sequence.You have to join ideas making an interesting writing.
And the last tip I can give you, is that when you finish writing, check it twice finding mistakes or coherence.

Be going to, Would, infinitive

Be going to i used to express future actions, planned in the past. (except the one that are for a schedule or program).
Example:
- I´m going to buy a new car next week.
- They ´re going to move house.
- She´s going to have a baby.
- We´re going to get married next summer.
- Linda´s going to learn Italian.


Would

"Would" is most commonly used to create conditional verb forms. It also serves as the past form of the modal verb "will." Additionally, "would" can indicate repetition in the past. For more information on the grammar behind the modal verb "would," 
Examples:
  • If he were an actor, he would be in adventure movies. conditional
  • I knew that she would be very successful in her career. past of "will"
  • When they first met, they would always have picnics on the beach. repetition
Infinitive:
Certain words are followed by an infinite verb with or without ‘to’.

Using a present or past participle.

we can use -ing & -ed forms:
a) combined with other words to make participle clauses.
e.g., Not  knowing where she was, I rang her on the  phone.
(=Because I didn't know where she was, I rang her on the cell phone.)
Left waiting in the rain for an hour, he felt very angry.
(=He  had been left waiting in the rain  for an hour, so he felt very angry.)

b) after nouns to make reduced relative clauses.
e.g., Can you see the man sitting on the bench?
(=Can you see the man sitting on the bench?)
We drove past treets blown down by the storm.
(=We drove past treets that had been blown  down by the storm.)

c) after conjunctions and prepositions.
e.g., After eating dinner, I like to take a long bath.
When traveling, I like to take a dairy with me.

Alternatives to relatives clauses

Defining relative clauses (also called identifying relative clauses or restrictive relative clauses) give detailed information defining a general term or expression. Defining relative clauses are not put in commas.
Defining relative clauses are often used in definitions.
A seaman is someone who works on a ship.
Object pronouns in defining relative clauses can be dropped. (Sentences with a relative clause without the relative pronoun are called Contact Clauses.)
The boy (who/whom) we met yesterday is very nice.

Non-Defining Relative Clauses 

Non-defining relative clauses (also called non-identifying relative clauses or non-restrictive relative clauses) give additional information on something, but do not define it. Non-defining relative clauses are put in commas.
Example.- Do you know the girl, who is talking to Tom?
Note: In non-defining relative clauses, who/which may not be replaced with that.
Object pronouns in non-defining relative clauses must be used.

Women weren't allowed to speak up their opinion, just in some mixed audience of men and women. There were some male abolitionists that supported the right  of women to speak and participate with men in antislavery activities, having the same worth their voice.
 
In mi opínion women have influenced about taking decisions about slavery, they've been a good reason to improve laws, and things that made this world worst. Women are great taking desicions

Author says: Women complained that they were human and their development was severely limited. That's because they weren't allowed to vote, have some jobs and things like that. Charlotte Perkings characterized home as inefficient compared with the mass production techniques used in the modern factory. She proposed that women should share the tasks of homemaking with the best women cookers, cleaners, and some that can take care of young children everyone doing their own task.
Feminists believed that a cooperative society based on socualist economic principles would make women rights be applied. The social labor party was  one of the first political parties in the US and they involve women.
By the 20th century the term new woman appeared and was used by popular press.  Women were used to work in blue and white collar jobs, this was criticized  by society and had the idea that it was the end of home and family.
 
I think women want to many rights and they don't offer to much. They just want to receive and have law applied in things they have some benefits, but in other things they don't want to be treated as equal as men. I have the idea that women should rise their children with the help of their husband, but the main earnings should be assumed by men. This is dignity and well all the time it has been made this way and it has worked so in my opinion it should be this way.

The author word are thar women have had the right to vote since 1920 but they were not taken in a real way. This changed by 1984.
By 1979 Chicago and San Francisco were governed by women. The author mentioned to much women that became important at government and departments of the government. This was a huge developement for women because they were elected and had their right to speak up their opinions and ideas.
 
In my opinion, a lot of women give great ideas in politics. They have a different point of view , women have been producing interesting proposals. In Mexico they have been acquiring better positions in government, and i guess they're making a good job. But still it's strange to see a women fighting for their ideas with men.

Women at Work

The author's idea is that women didn't work at jobs because a lot of people thought they were useless. For example there weren't women doctor, lawyers, preachers, etc.  By the 19th century society accepted the fact that women were able to do jobs they were not supposed to do. Women were excluded from the professions, except for writing and teaching. It was considered  nursing as a proper female occupation. Also the teaching profession was a great field for women to work.
Women didn't get the important assignments and promotions, this was a severe discrimination in jobs. One of the facts that make women being discriminates is that if they're pregnant, and in this situation the company has to pay the worker as if she's working and this stops productivity.
 
My point of view is that women shouldn't be discriminated from works that are for men. We just need to get a different solution to the problem that women get paid the time they're having their baby. I think society has changed their point of view about women. The problem of accepting women at jobs is that their children have a lack of education by their mothers. This is giving a lot of problemas to society we should attack that, it probably is giving more problems than solutions. I understand the fact they want to do something more than raising children. But someone has to do that job.

Unmarried woman could own property, make a contract, or sue and be sued. But married they are like a man's belonging. In other words the husband's have control of her.

The man owned his wife and children and all their possesions. Laws have been equal by the run of the time.  Nowadays women can sue their husband that has changed a lot since the age that women had no right to express their opinion.

In my opinion woman should have the right of having their own opinion and rights. The thing is that they should have their own properties, and belongings. I think the solution of this is the prenuptial agreement. Every person can have their own things. For example women can have their car  registered at their name.  


 

The weaker sex?

The Weaker Sex?

Women were considered weaker than men, and some times useless at some jobs. For example in muscular work and some times at intellectual also. Of couse we remember the domestic job was only for women, for example: taking care for children and well if we move on to older times, women were in charge of milking cows, washing clothes in the river, and things like that. But now we have discovered that women have a grat tolerance for pain and they live longer.
 
 
In some culture the education depend from her mother for example she taught to cook, clean, raising children. 
Tests have shown that women get better grades at school. 
 
In my opinion women has reached better grades at school, but this doesn't mean anything because, I've met people that haven't studied anything and they're succesfull people. I also disagree that women just can work at home work or carying their kids.

Early Attitudes Toward Women

The author says that women have been viewed as a source of evil. Historically, women were considered intellectually inferior to men, and also a source of evil.
This beliefs toward women has been better. For example, Hinduism required obedience of women toward men.

Women made significant achievements. They love having power and prestige.

In my opinion, I believe that women should be treated as men. They are always complaining that they want the same rights. They should have the same obligations that men have.
